> Is Drowsiness a Common Effect of Fenbendazole 222 mg in Dogs? | Safegenericlife

Fenbendazole 222 mg is a commonly used dose of fenbendazole, a broad-spectrum deworming medication for dogs. Many pet owners worry whether this dose can cause drowsiness or sleepiness. In general, drowsiness is not a common or expected side effect of fenbendazole—even at the 222 mg strength—when it is given at the correct dose for the dog’s weight.

Fenbendazole works by targeting intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and certain tapeworms. It does not act on the brain or nervous system, which is why it usually does not cause sedation. Most dogs tolerate fenbendazole very well.

That said, some dogs may appear mildly tired or less energetic during treatment. This is often temporary and usually related to:

The body’s immune response as parasites die and are expelled

Mild digestive upset (soft stools, reduced appetite)

An existing heavy worm burden that temporarily stresses the body

In dogs with significant parasite infections, this short-term fatigue can be more noticeable. However, once the treatment is completed, many dogs actually become more energetic and active because parasites are no longer draining nutrients from their system.
